Reviews

  • A very good version

Perhaps not the definitive rendition of La Traviata for purists (I have heard everything from "Callas is best"... "Fleming is best"... "Sills is better"... "Sutherland's earlier version is better"). But really. It's nitpicking. Pavarotti sounds great and if you aren't a native Italian speaker you won't hear Sutherland's poor diction that the native speakers complain about. The orchestration is lovely, the recording quality is excellent and this is a very servicable and moving version of La Traviata. At iTunes prices it's a good risk.
  • The Best ever Recorded

Even though it's been more than 20 years since this recording, no other has been able to match it or suprass it. The Che e cio? is superb and is Dame Joan Sutherland at its best. It's Pavarotti's voice in it's highest point. If you should listen to one Traviata in your life this one would be the one.
  • Great for Fans of Traviata and Pavarotti
